Anthon Astounds: MPO Round Three

Anthon Astounds: MPO Round Three

By Jerry Roth

The third round of the Ledgestone Insurance presented by Discraft began with our leader Josh Anthon owning a four stroke lead over Ricky Wysocki, five strokes over Paul Ulibarri, and six strokes over Paul McBeth. The skill that Josh has shown over the past two rounds was incredible and if he keeps his pace up no one will be able to stop his phenomenal run.

Ricky Wysocki

Ricky Wysocki played an amazing round of disc golf during his third round. His fairway hits percentage was an extraordinary 84% and his circle 1 was 90% which kept him in the pack, just not as close to Josh as he would have liked. A sore spot in Ricky’s game was his scramble rate which sunk to 50 %, a level rarely seen by the World Champion. Throughout his round, Ricky carded two bogeys and even an uncharacteristic double Bogey. The bright spot was that Ricky was able to convert seven birdies to finish -16 and place fourth place going into the final day.

Paul Ulibarri

Paul Ulibarri truthfully had two separate rounds within his third round today. His first nine holes was either feast or famine, he shot an uneven mix of four birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey. A front nine I’m sure Paul wishes he could get back. The back nine, however was an entirely other story. Paul converted on six birdie attempts to finish -17 and tying Paul McBeth for second place.

Paul McBeth

Paul McBeth hasn’t had the tournament that we as fans are used to seeing, but he has played exceptionally well. He birdied nine holes and six in a row on the back nine alone. His stats back up his great play with a 100% circle 1 putting rate and an impressive 100% circle 2 putting rate that kept him in the hunt. If there was a part of his game that may need an adjustment it was his fairway hits that dropped to 67%, a number that is seldom seen by the great World Champion. All in all he played his heart and out finishing the day -17 and tied with Paul Ulibarri. Can he light the course on fire and catch Josh Anthon?

Josh Anthon

Josh Anthon has taken the Disc Golf Pro Tour by storm! He played strong at the Utah Open narrowly losing to Ricky Wysocki down the stretch and this week at the Ledgestone he has played some of the best disc golf that fans have ever seen. Throughout his third round, Josh carded an amazing ten birdies with a lone bogey to blemish his perfect day. His scrambling percentage soared to 84%, a scramble percentage of 80%, and a 94% percent circle 1 rate that gave him the edge all day long. Can anyone stop Josh Anthon? Are we seeing a changing of the guard?

The hot round of the day went Cameron Colglazier when he shot a -10 to help move in up eight spots. Other high climbers to mention for the day were, James Proctor moving 21 spots, Cale Leiviska moving 11 spots, and the legend himself, Dave Feldberg climbing 9 spots.

The only problem that the competitors faced this week at the Ledgestone Insurance Open is that they ran into Josh Anthon. He played three superb rounds and tested every opponent that shared a card with him. Will the final round be any different?

The final round of the Ledgestone Insurance Open presented by Discraft will feature Josh Anthon -26, Paul McBeth -17, Paul Ulibarri -17, and Ricky Wysocki -16. Although the leader has a great advantage, anything can truly happen. The leaderboard is full of the best disc golfers to play the game and it isn’t over until the very last disc has been thrown.
